She was interned in a prison camp when the Japanese invaded Java in 1942. In 1944,
when she was just 21 years old, she was taken away and forced into sexual slavery by
the Japanese military. She was repeatedly raped and beaten for a period of three months,
along with other Dutch girls.

in a hospital, but they were all brought to a brothel for Japanese officers.
“For the Japanese, it was a house of pleasure: for us, a hell of fear,
shame and sorrow,” Ellen testified.

In 1993, Rosa Maria Henson became the first Lola to come forward publicly about her experience.
Henson had been 15 when Japanese soldiers abducted her. They incarcerated her for 9 months,
and up to 30 men raped her every day.

Prescilla Bartonico was 17 when she was captured by the Japanese.
Bartonicoが日本兵に捕らえられたのは17歳の時だ。
The door banged open and soldiers from the Imperial Japanese Army were suddenly upon them.
They grabbed Bartonico’s cousin and dragged her across the floor. The girl screamed and kicked and
scratched the soldiers’ faces. Three soldiers took turns raping her before they killed her.
（防空壕の）扉が乱暴に開き、彼女らに襲いかかった。彼らはBartonicoの（年下の）いとこを引きずり掴んだ。
その少女は叫んで兵士を蹴飛ばし、顔を引っ掻いた。いとこは３人の兵士に代わる代わるレイプされた後、殺された。
Witnessing her cousin’s assault and murder, Bartonico wept as another soldier tied her up and raped
her in front of her family and friends.

For the next three months, Bartonico was imprisoned in a military garrison in the town of Burauen in the
Philippines. She said she was raped multiple times daily, “by five to eight” men.

Speaking in Chinese with an English interpreter, she broke into uncontrollable sobs and
wailing cries as she recounted how she was raped by five to six soldiers every day,
resting only when she had to go outside to use the outhouse. Her body was totally ruined,
and had vaginal bleeding incessantly.
